We at the Horse & Farrier Inn / Salutation Inn are a traditional Lakeland Inn who are offering a warm Cumbrian welcome to all its customers. We are based in an idyllic location in the centre of the picturesque village of Threlkeld, with breath-taking views of Blencathra and the Helvellyn Range. With mellow Lakeland stone, traditional architecture and a peaceful atmosphere, the Horse & Farrier is the perfect place to enjoy a quiet pint, delicious food or a short break away from it all.
Under our roof, we have a bar which serves some of the best Jennings real ale in the Lake District a Restaurant which is renowned locally for its quality and imaginative food, and a well-appointed en-suite bed & breakfast Accommodation & cottages for guests and holiday makers to come and stay – this really is a special place for you and your 4-legged friends to spend some time at.
Built in 1688, the Inn has many of its original features such as slate flagged floors, beamed ceilings and open fires. It retains all the character you would expect from a building with such a long history. Customers and guests love the charm of the place not to mention the welcoming atmosphere when they first walk through the door. We have found many who return again and again.
We pride ourselves on serving some of the best real ales in the area, which includes: well kept Jennings’ beers, a regular guest beer, as well as the usual range of keg beers and lagers. Plus an extensive wine list of quality wines from all over the World and a range of spirits and soft drinks.
We have developed over the years an excellent reputation for our quality menu, from our hearty Lakeland breakfast to our home cooked meals which are served either in our intimate Restaurant or in the Bar. Our dishes are interesting and varied to appeal to all interests and tastes. We only use seasonal and local produce in our meals and they are each freshly prepared in our gleaming kitchen. An ever growing number of regulars together with numerous guide book recommendations are testament to our kitchen staff’s skill.
We have 9 well appointed bed & breakfast (B&B) guest rooms available in the main Inn, all of which have excellent views, and all the facilities you will need for a comfortable stay. Plus, we have additional accommodation available in our Horse & Farrier Cottage located next door to the inn and The Salutation Inn coattge based across the road. Both cottages are dog friendly and are tastefully decorated to give you that home from home feel.
